What to Expect (Jordan Minor Hockey)

What to expect from hockey at Jordan
Jordan Lions Minor Hockey Association is a House League Hockey Center with a mindset based on community involvement, co-operation, skill development, and respect for self, peers, coaches, refs and other officials, and the community.
ALL Hockey Programs in Jordan are non-contact 'INCLUDING' the Rostered Select program.
The season starts with an evaluation period in September. This consists of several on-ice practice/ drill periods where the coaching staff in each division rate each player. This rating system is then used to assist in the team selections, which is a tool used by the Executive and coaching staff to attempt to make teams in each division as equal and fair as is reasonably possible.
After this is complete, for the Novice through to Bantam Divisions, Draft Day occurs the following Saturday. The excitement builds as the players and parents learn what team they've been "drafted" to for the start of the season. At this point or shortly thereafter, parents are contacted and informed when the practice and games are to be held each week.
October / November
Trades. It is the hope of the Executive and coaching staff that all of the teams improve throughout the season and remain competitive and as equal as possible. If it is determined by the Executive that the teams are not even, meetings are held and there is the possibility of trades occurring. Please keep this in mind, although it is not a task that is enjoyed, the idea is for all teams within the division to remain within a reasonable competitive level, this is for the benefit of all the players, not for a few.
Roster Select tryouts are posted, and begin. Roster Select is played in addition to the House League schedule, with the prime commitment for the players being House League. It involves extra practices, and exhibition games against other Centers, as well as a few tournaments throughout the season.

The Annual House League Christmas Tournament (Novice through to Midget) takes place with teams from other Centers coming to compete with our Jordan teams.
January / February
The Annual Dick Catterall Select Tournament takes place, with Select teams from other centers coming to compete against Jordan. Come watch some excellent hockey, from Atom to Midget.

Our Select teams normally enter other tournaments throughout these months as well.

The regular House League season winds down, and playoffs begin. All those weeks of practices/ drills/ and speeches are put to the test. Excellent hockey is played in every division, and everyone is welcome to come cheer the teams on. After the game, awards are handed out in the upstairs hall. These include team awards and divisional awards, so players from all teams are encouraged to attend.
